A little about envelope weaving
Envelope braid is the type of braid that is seen on many classic designer chairs. This type of braid creates a braid that looks like an envelope, hence the name. When braiding with envelope, the seat of the designer chair you are braiding must be square. There are many chairs that are more conical in shape, and here laces are made on the sides so that the envelope braid can fall into place.
The funny thing about envelope braiding is, for us professionals, that all four corners are different when braiding. It's not something you can see in the result, but when the strings are put on, the braider must constantly keep track of the uniqueness of each corner to make sure the braid fits properly.
