A little about flat weave

Flat braid, as the name suggests, is a braid that forms a completely flat surface. That is, the braid is not completely flat, but consists of a lot of small “waves”.

Flat braiding is done by first installing some cords, typically called "strings", in special brackets in the direction of the chair's seat. Then, the braiding is done with transverse cords that move up and down between the strings, in small waves. This gives the completely unique and well-known flat braid pattern, which is very robust, and thus most durable.

Creative patterns in flat weave

You can play around with the pattern in flat weave. You typically get creative with the pattern on the original classics, as you want to preserve the originality, but we often see that carpenter's chairs are designed for flat weave, and here there is room for a little play with the pattern. This gives the weave, and thus of course also the chair, a completely different expression, which usually also appears very beautiful.
