ORIGINAL Arne Jacobsen
The design philosophy behind Jacobsen's chairs
Arne Jacobsen worked from a holistic design philosophy, where architecture and interior design went hand in hand. His chairs were often an integral part of the buildings he designed, and were designed with a focus on both comfort and a sculptural expression. Jacobsen had a penchant for clean lines and organic shapes, and he constantly sought to unite form and function in his designs.
Jacobsen's chairs were also technologically groundbreaking. He was among the first to experiment with molded plywood and new materials such as steel and plastic, which made it possible to create the elegant, streamlined designs he is known for today.
