Chairs are not just functional furniture - they are often carriers of history, craftsmanship and aesthetics. Do you have a classic designer chair or an heirloom that has seen better days? With professional rewiring, you can extend its lifespan and recreate the original look. At DKA Design in Kongens Lyngby, we offer rewiring of chairs in Copenhagen - with respect for both tradition and craftsmanship.
Why choose rewiring over replacement?
When a chair seat wears out, it can be tempting to think about replacing it. But many chairs – especially Danish design classics – are built to last for generations. It is often only the wickerwork that needs renewal. A professional re-weaving not only restores the chair's function and comfort, but also preserves its value and identity.
By re-weaving, you preserve both the original frame and the craftsmanship that today's production can rarely match.
Handicraft in a class of its own - from the workshop in Kongens Lyngby
At DKA Design we specialize in the restoration and weaving of classic designer chairs - including models from Børge Mogensen , Hans J. Wegner and NO Møller . We combine decades of experience with respect for the original techniques. All tasks are carried out in our own workshop north of Copenhagen with materials of absolute top quality - from sjener and paper yarn to seaweed and webbing.
We emphasize personal contact, transparency and good craftsmanship - regardless of whether it concerns a single chair or a larger commercial project.
What types of chairs can be braided?
At DKA Design, we offer a wide range of wicker types, adapted to both classic designer chairs and newer furniture. Our expertise covers, among other things:
- Envelope braid : A traditional braided shape, often used on older Danish designer chairs - made with seagrass for an authentic look.
- Flat weave : Used especially on models from Mogensen, Møller and Wegner - gives a tight and elegant look.
- Mustard braid : A durable and classic solution where we use carefully selected mustard from our own imports.
- Girdle weave : Suitable for sturdy chairs and lounge models - provides a tight and comfortable weave.
- Machine weave : Typical French reed weave in factory-made sections, particularly suitable for restoring older chairs.
- Flagline braid : A modern and flexible wicker, often seen on Wegner chairs like the CH25 - gives a light and airy look.
Regardless of the chair's model and age, we will advise you on the most suitable type of wicker and choice of material.
How the process works
Weaving always starts with an individual assessment. Here we review the condition of the chair, the frame and the existing wickerwork. We then recommend the most suitable type of wicker and prepare a non-binding offer.
Once the agreement is in place, you can deliver your chairs directly to our workshop in Kongens Lyngby - or have them picked up and delivered by arrangement. We will keep you updated along the way, and you can always contact us if you have any questions.
What does it cost?
The price depends on the chair model and the material chosen. As a starting point, a weave typically falls into the following levels:
- Y-chair with paper yarn: from 950,-
- Folk chair J39 : from 875,-
- NO Møller and Wegner plan wicker: from 1,100,-
- Mustard wicker - for example on BM61 or similar chairs: from 1,300,-
- Webbing - e.g. on lounge chairs and armchairs: from 1,100,-
